How long do YOU wait for an online video to start?
If you wait longer than 2 seconds, you are a very patient person.
According to a recent study conducted by a University of Massachusetts computer science professor named Ramesh Sitaraman, online video viewers wait only 2 seconds for a video to start before moving on to something else. That means if the video – or pre-roll ad – has any trouble buffering, streaming, or in any way starting right away – the viewer has already lost interest.
Sitaraman studied the video habits of 6.7 million unique viewers playing 102,000 videos, comprising 216 million minutes, from 12 programmers, over a 10 day-period.
The results clearly show that programmers and advertisers need to step up their game.
