A Clvr 2012 Review – A Year of Change and Many Thanks
Over the past 12 months we have seen many changes here at Clvr. To put it simply, we grew up a lot as a company this year. We made extensive changes to our team from the top down. This was particularly hard as we saw people that we had grown close to personally move on and not always with the grace and congeniality that we would have hoped.
We added experience and maturity in several key positions that allowed us the leadership we had been lacking in our early years. We also were proud to see people internally grow dramatically and take on significant roles and exceed expectations. Overall this allowed us to run leaner as a company, and we have actually been able to deliver more with less because of those changes. We changed our corporate structure and became more fiscally and legally responsible throughout the year. We engaged with professionals at the top of their game to help us make the transition from a company trying to survive to a company that is growing and thriving.
We shifted our development efforts to be even more focused on our interactive video technology without disturbing our client base or the products and services that brought us to this point. We continue to integrate those products and services so that we can keep our clients ahead of the curve as they share their company’s message online. We shifted our philosophy to be very conversion focused. We are tracking oodles of data and constantly tweaking our approach based on how we can best deliver the end results our clients desire. We are seeing meaningful results in our clients’ bottom line because of those changes.
We redesigned all of our methods to be clearer, cleaner and simpler. We have applied that to all that we do from marketing communications and materials, to sales pitches and contracts, to site builds and video projects. We found out simple is really hard, but when done correctly it is dramatically more effective.
We shifted our efforts in execution to leverage as many existing technologies as possible and found out what we were really good at and what we should leave to the talented people running companies throughout the world and the web. That opened the door to work with some of the smartest and most talented individuals and companies we have had the pleasure to meet. It has been extremely energizing and exciting.
We have always wanted to play with the big kids and we are finally getting our turn at bat. We continue to stay patient and make sure we are getting on base while we wait for a pitch in our sweet spot and then we swing for the fences. Sometimes we strike out, sometimes it’s ugly actually, but we learn and get better every day. Occasionally we knock one out of the park and get to take our trip around the bases in the sunshine. Those days are worth the work, hands down.
We have committed to participating more socially, both on the web and in the real world. We get out of the mad scientist lab more often and share what we are doing with the world. That has led us to engaging conversations and information that we would have never been privy to previously.
We have learned that feedback, particularly critical feedback, is our new favorite thing. Pats on the back are great, but letting us know where we are missing allows us to get it right faster and there is little more important to us than that. We found that we have to press a little harder to get people to be willing to push us instead of being polite, but it is extremely valuable and worth the effort.
We have reestablished our culture and our identity at Clvr. We are back to a place where we all love coming to work every day and love the people we get to work with both internally and externally. We continue to be selective about the team and clients we choose to work with and that really makes all the difference for us.
We got through all of this and more while still generating 200% gains in revenue over last year and increased our margins significantly. We refused to let the distractions and obstacles stop us from getting to our end goal. We are happy, driven and excited for the year to come. We are feeling pretty smart over here, but I guess that comes with the territory working with such a Clvr group of people (wink wink).
To that end I think the most important thing I can say is thank you both to our team here and the clients that we serve. None of this would be possible without the great people that contribute every day to the impossible goals we endlessly take on every day, and we wouldn’t have those challenges if not for the brilliant business owners pushing us to help them grow.
It is difficult to express how much I owe those that help Clvr plow ahead. Sometimes we grind forward by inches and sometimes we leap forward by miles, but without the group all pushing together in the same direction, both in the office and around the world, we would be stuck in the mud. I’ve been there before. It is cold and sticky and it sucks. So once again and a thousand times more to each of you… Thank you and happy holidays.
Can’t wait for next year!
